Perry Charles Uhazie, DDS

Perry Charles Uhazie, DDS, the oldest of 3 sons, was born and raised in Iron Mountain, MI. His father retired as the Senior Vice President of First National Bank in Iron Mountain where he served for over 45 years and his mother was a Registered Nurse at the V.A. Hospital in Iron Mountain for almost 30 years where she retired as the Nurse Manager of the Medical / Surgical Unit. His parents were loyal and hard-working employees who instilled that work ethic into all three of their children.

Dr. Uhazie completed his undergraduate studies at Lake Superior State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He was accepted into University of Michigan School of Dentistry and completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in May of 1987.

Research was always a passion of Dr. Uhazie’s. After his graduation from LSSU and while in dental school, he worked under the direction of Dr. R. Neal Band at the Michigan State University Navy’s Project E.L.F. System where he studied the life cycle of amoeba. Additionally, he studied the effect of Atropine on dental caries in white lab mice, Mus musculus, at Lake Superior State University as his senior biology research project.

Starting his dental practice in Gladstone, MI in 1987 and working as a Contract Dentist at the Northern Menominee Health Center in Powers, MI, he opened his Private Dental practice at his present location in June of 1990. He is now celebrating 31 years of serving his patients in Escanaba, MI and surrounding counties.

Teaching and giving back to the community have also been passions of Dr. Uhazie. In addition to being a guest lecturer at Lake Superior State University on the topic of Oral Microanatomy and Embryology, he was an Instructor of the Dental Assisting Program at Bay de Noc Community College for 7 years. Various volunteer programs and extracurricular functions that he has been involved with over his career include Oral Cancer screening, K-6th grade oral hygiene presentations, Public TV “Ask the Dentist,” Chippewa County Volunteers in Probation, volunteer Dentist at the Care Free Dental Clinic in Escanaba, coach / sponsor of the Uhazie Drill Team Little League Baseball team as well as Kiwanis and Escanaba Bonifas Fine Arts Center community events.
